Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football, has officially announced that the Africa Cup of Nations will be held in Cameroon on the scheduled date from January 9 to February 6.
Cameroon will host the tournament matches, on 6 different stadiums, with the participation of 24 teams, which will be divided into 6 groups.
The opening match of the 2022 African Cup will be held on January 9 at the Olympic Stadium in the Cameroonian capital Yaounde, and the tournament will open with a match between Cameroon and Burkina Faso.
It is noteworthy that the European Club Association had previously submitted a letter to the International and Confederation of African Football, in which it expressed its fear for the safety of professional players in European clubs, in light of the spread of the Omicron mutant in the world, and demanded the postponement or cancellation of the tournament.
